The HexSite® Sighting System is a revolution in target acquisition! A design is based on a decade’s worth of medical, psychological, and combat proven research. Why is this so important? The majority of people, including military and law enforcement, have never engaged in an actual gunfight. Without experiencing the true symptoms of “fight or flight while training, or spending time in an actual hostile environment and being forced time and again to hone your gun-fighting skills, most are left with catchy saying like “Train like you fight, and fight like you train.” The “fight or flight” response – the body’s defensive mechanisms – are a fury of sympathetic nervous system reactions. One of which is a dump of  adrenaline, in preparation for emergency action. The symptoms of this “chemical dump” are an evolutionary response to increase the likelihood of survival when faced with imminent harm. The symptoms of “fight or flight” include:
  1. Increased heart rate to maximizethe flow of blood to the large muscles and deliver maximum oxygen to the brain.
  2. Constriction of blood vessels under the skin to prevent potential blood loss.
  3. Pupils dilate, and the lens becomes less convex, to broaden the field of focus for distant viewing; unfortunately, this lessens the ability to maintain clear focus on targets at close distances.
According to Dr. Edward C. Godnig, O.D., FCOVD of the Police Policy Studies Council: “It is not possible during the first few seconds after entering into the BAR (Body Alarm Reaction) to clearly focus upon the front sights of a gun. A shooter’s visual focusing and attention is drawn to focus toward far distant viewing, toward infinity…During the immediate stages of the BAR, the lens becomes less convex in shape and this results in an optical shift of focus resulting in clear focus only while viewing distant targets.”2 So if we know that it is impossible to focus on the front sight of a firearm during the fight or flight response, than why do so many people do it in training? HexSite® Sighting System is the only combat sight designed not to be looked at while fighting. While bull’s-eye target shooters have a long history of focusing on the front sight to achieve enormous levels of precision, combat shooters have a more important task; neutralize the threat as quickly and efficiently as possible. Combat shooters must engage and neutralize enemy threats that are mobile, unpredictable, and sometimes irrational. The fight or flight response that requires the shooter to focus only on the distant threat is appropriate to achieve those objectives. If you’re looking at your sights instead of the bad guy, your chances for survival dramatically decrease.
